  Netflix brings HD streaming to the PC and Mac! It's no longer limited to consoles and set top boxes - your computer can now stream Netflix in HD too! Google and Intel partner up and announce GoogleTV, and Google joins with Mozilla and Opera to support WebM, an open source royalty-free codec. Walmart is again selling its bargain Magnavox Blu-ray player to $78. Producers of The Hurt Locker launched a lawsuit targeting people who had pirated the film, but Time Warner doesn't want to hand over their users info, saying it would be too costly for them. The FCC is allowing cable and satellite services to selectively disable ports on your set top box, potentially closing the analog loophole. DirecTV is launching their Whole Home HD DVR, which will allow you to send video to receivers across your entire house. Red Dead Redemption has been released, though there seems to be a resolution difference on the different consoles: 640p on the PS3, and 720p on the XBox 360.

  Part rant, part attempt to inform some of the vidders running contests and collabs out there. News flash: SONY VEGAS ISN'T THE ONLY SOFTWARE USED TO MAKE FANVIDS. Wow, mind-blowing, huh? Yeah, and some people don't even use Windows! I hope everyone who is familiar with me knows that I hold no bad feelings towards Vegas. (I write tutorials for it, I make videos with it! I pimp it shamelessly to WMM users! LOL.) But this Vegas-centric, Vegas-tunnel-vision trend on YouTube has got to STOP. It's really getting on a lot of other vidders' nerves. Look, just because you use Vegas, it doesn't mean that everyone else does. Also, Vegas is not the best or the only piece of sophisticated software used for vidding. Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, and to some extent, Corel VideoStudio are also very good. (And while I'm here, I don't understand the logic of having contests which specify "Vegas" but not saying whether you mean Vegas Pro or Vegas Movie Studio. Vegas Movie Studio is crippled in some ways. How is that not important? Why accept a crippled consumer-level app like Vegas Movie Studio but *exclude* Final Cut Pro, which is used to make feature films?) When you make rules for your collab auditions or video contests which say "Vegas Only," you are excluding a lot of good vidders. Okay, so maybe you don't think I'm not one of those good vidders (LOL) but there are a lot of others out there who are talented and accomplished and there is no rational reason to exclude them.
