After The Dark Knight , there’s no doubt many Blu-ray fans can’t wait to see Christopher Nolan’s next blockbuster on their HDTVs, and now the Inception special edition has been listed for pre-order in the UK. Specs confirm Warner will include its Maximum Movie Mode where the director walks you through key moments of the film and two digital comics that serve as prologues to the film’s events. The packaging itself is also...

Stuck with an ODD-less netbook or laptop, but can’t quite shake the urge to watch a Blu-ray Disc on your next flight? If you call Japan home (or you know a good importer), Buffalo has just the solution. The BP3D-PI6U2-BK measures 137-  Read More →

Besides playing Alfred on Batman, where’s Michael Caine been? We sure don’t know, but he’s back in Harry Brown which is our number one movie of the week on Blu-ray. Sure it didn’t bring much in via the Box Office, but it does have a decent IMDB score which is thankfully higher than Sleuth . There are a number of TV shows for you this week as well, which should give you enough time to catch up on your favorite shows before...

Film lovers should add another must-buy to their list, now that The Complete Metropolis is coming to Blu-ray for the first time on November 16. This version includes the recently recovered 25 minutes of extra footage that debuted in theaters earlier this year after being lost for 80 years since its debut in 1927. The lost footage couldn’t be completely restored to match the quality of the rest, but fans of this classic silent film should...

Universal’s added a new wrinkle to persuade people to buy Get Him to the Greek on Blu-ray — throw in a copy of an entirely different movie. Sure, during the MTV Video Music Awards we imagined not having to watch Russell Brand was a feature that should be included more often, but we didn’t expect to see it tucked in among these other Blu-ray exclusive extras — karaoke, the Pocket BLU iPhone remote control app, social BLU...

The BDXL format offers 100GB on a single-sided disc, and while that sounds great for archiving content, we’re a little leery about Hollywood adopting it to stuff even more deleted scenes on our discs. Why? Because no current Blu-ray players can read the things, and we can’t say we’re keen to buy another. We’re getting a little closer to that kind of support with Panasonic’s new Diga-series recorders. There are six...

As annoying as continuous Blu-ray player updates are, usually having the latest one is the best way to play more movies. Unfortunately the opposite was the case for Samsung ( again ) with the v2.09 update posted recently for its 2009 BD-Px600 line of players. Forum posters on CNET and AVSForum report the upgrade blocked them from playing Universal and Warner Bros. movies, which conveniently lock up after displaying the title image. Samsung’s...

If you’re like some of us, and Redbox’s Blu-ray availability search came up empty even after the company announced it’s expanding high definition rentals to all locations , it may be time to look again. At several locations in Michigan, and also experienced by our friends at HighDefDiscNews , even though the official search page still says there’s no BluBoxes to be found, checking the Blu-ray category of local Redbox...

We’ve been following the HD releases each week for years, and besides the weeks when there were no releases at all, this one is pretty much the worst ever. Now we know you might be a Dexter fan and can’t wait to enjoy the 4th season, but for the rest of us, what exactly do you want us to get excited about? Cemetery Junction ? Yeah right. What…  Read More →

As rumored , all six Star Wars movies will be released together on Blu-ray in 2011 for the 35th anniversary of the release of A New Hope . George Lucas personally announced the set on stage at the Celebration V event, and showed off a deleted scene from Return of the Jedi that will be included (embedded after the break.) While the “highest picture and audio quality” and extensive special features …  Read More →

Denon recently announced two new additions to its Blu-ray lineup: the $799 DBP-2011UDCI and the $399 DBP-1611UD. Both models are universal disc players, and both are 3D-ready. We have not performed a hands-on review of the DBP-1611UD, but here is an overview of its features. This Profile 2.0 player supports BD-Live Web functionality and BonusView/picture-in-picture playback, and it offers both onboard decoding and bitstream output of Dolby TrueHD...

HBO and Warner have finally announced what Deadwood fans are waiting for — no, not a movie or new season — the complete series is coming to Blu-ray, with all 36 episodes in one boxed set. Getting all of the wild west into your Blu-ray player won’t be cheap however, as it’s carrying a $209.98 MSRP (currently on Amazon for $146.99), with no additional extras over what were already on the previous DVD releases. Still, seeing...

Yamaha recently added a fourth model to its Blu-ray lineup, and the new BD-S667 is the company’s least expensive Blu-ray offering to date, with an MSRP of $329.95. We have not performed a hands-on review of the BD-S667, but here is an overview of its features. This Profile 2.0 player supports BD-Live Web functionality and BonusView/picture-in-picture playback, and it offers both onboard decoding and bitstream output of Dolby TrueHD and...

If you’ve been reading this weekly post regularly and thinking, “man when is a new kick-ass movie or all of my favorite MGM classics going to be on Blu-ray?” then this is your week. Kick-ass isn’t exactly the type of movie that would draw us to the theater, but any title that hits Blu-ray with an IMDB score of 8.2 …  Read More →

Kick-Ass comes to Blu-ray next week, and it seems Lionsgate has been dropping clips of the special features all over the web in preparation for its release. Not surprisingly for a studio with a rep for pushing the technological limits, it has plenty of Blu-ray exclusives planned, including “Ass Kicking Bonus View Mode” to draw together commentary, background footage and graphics along with the movie, and the “A New Kind of...
